創作自述 /侯俊明
刑天與帝爭神，帝斷其首，葬之常羊之山。刑天乃以乳為目，以臍為口，操干戚以舞。-山海經
這樣的形象撼動著我，一個被砍了頭的人，為了要繼續抗爭，以致於將自己的身體異化，使得身體也可以凝視，就像一個死不瞑目的人。撼動我的豈止是神話中超乎尋常的變異意象，而是這其中所充塞的不可彌補的缺憾與仇恨。搜神記系列作品是藉由扭曲變形的身體，凸顯人之慾望及其對壓制力量的反抗，那是一種堅毅且永不止息的生存意志。傳統民間宗教活動與古代典籍，給予我創作極多的養分。但在此，我所要建構的一個現代的、都會的搜神經典，最終的目的是要透過這樣的一個經典去蓋「廟」。

When Xing Tian and the Almighty fought for celestial supremacy, God beheaded Xing Yian and buried him within Xiyang Mountain. Xing Tian then used his breasts as eyes and his belly button as a mouth, and waved his weapon. -The Shanhai Classic

Images like this blow me away. In order to keep up his resistance, a man who has been beheaded transmutes his physical from so that his body can become frozen, like that of a soul who refuses to enter into death peacefully. What caotivates me is not just the extraordinarily bizarre images of mythology, but the excessive and irreparable regret and hate contained within.In the "Collecting Spirits"series, I utilize perverted, twisted human figures to call attention to desire and its resistance to oppressive forces. For me, such desires represent the indestructible, everlasting will to live.
I take considerable artistic nourishment from traditional folk religion and ancient classic texts, but what I am interested in building here is a modern, urban classic of spirit collection, through which my ultimate objective is to found a "temple".
