林書民以雷射影像（Hologram）的科技表現為其創作主要媒材，用此媒材的幻化特質，呈現其生命觀中，對肉身遷移與生命輪迴的東方思維。其作品，往往涉及了「困」與「一念」之間的轉折心理，而全像(holo)與信息(Gram)的交融下，產生沒有絕對真理的生滅意念。雷射影像，猶如是禁錮在透明光內的小舞台，呈現出變形、囚禁、窺探、交疊、遷徙不定的無常意象。在其《輪迴》、《追日》、《鍊》、《環》等作，藝術家均提出了如此凝視肉身幻化的視覺經驗。
Shu-min Lin uses light reflected from objects to mirror the uncertainties of life. The shifting of light from dark to bright corresponds with different levels of exposure. Light mystifies, transmits messages and attracts. This coming together of 'holo'(complete)and 'gram'(messages)conveys the concept of life and death devoid of absolute truth. The holograms express the unpredictable: distortion, confinement, voyeurism, dissolution of boundary, and movement. In other works auch as Reincarnation, Chasing Sun, Chain, and Rings, the artist further wxplores the experience of one's physical self as illusory.
